It started with a feeling — that something wasn't right. After years of working with founders and creatives, I kept seeing the same thing. The outside pressure — the market, the customers, the investors, the numbers — was so loud that people slowly disappeared behind their own brand. The story got blurry. The values became vague. The why faded into the background.

So I started asking a different question: what if we went back to the truth first — to the person, the story, the real reason behind the work?

That question became a methodology. The methodology became a studio. And the studio became a space for people who wanted to find their way back, and build from there.

ARU STUDIO DIDN'T START WITH A BUSINESS PLAN.

ARU STUDIO didn't start with a business plan.

Behind ARU is a human being — and that's my truth.

My name is Benjamin Ballicas — brand strategist and the person behind ARU STUDIO. With over 14 years of experience — across corporate environments like ING Bank, and as a CMO and senior strategist for startups and scale-ups — I help conscious founders and creatives build brands that actually feel like them. Not louder, not faster — just truer.

I come from years inside organisations — from financial services to startup CMO roles — working closely with founders and creatives who had real vision and genuine talent. What I kept seeing was how much of that got lost in the noise. The external pressure, the comparisons, the constant pull to look right rather than be true. I started ARU STUDIO because I believed there was a better way to build — from the inside out, from truth rather than trend.

I believe clarity changes everything. When you know who you are and what you actually stand for, something real shifts — decisions get easier, language gets genuine, and the brand stops being something you perform and starts being something you inhabit. Most branding still works from the outside in. I work the other way around.

I stand for slowness over speed, depth over trend, truth over performance. Not because slow is romantic or depth is a differentiator. But because anything built on a shaky foundation eventually shows it — and I'd rather do the work properly once than patch it repeatedly.

I don't work with surface aesthetics, empty positioning, or the pressure to be loud. If the goal is to look impressive rather than be honest, I'm genuinely not the right person. I hold that line not out of principle alone, but because I've seen what happens when brands skip the foundation.

I help conscious founders translate their inner truth into clear, aligned brands — through reflection, structure, and honest strategy. Not a new identity. A truer one. That's the only kind of work I know how to do well.

"The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are."

BEYOND THE STUDIO

BEYOND THE STUDIO

[1]

I move my body to stay grounded — sports have been part of my life since I was young, competing and performing. These days it's golf: the slowness of it, the focus, nature as a backdrop to quiet the noise.

[2]

I'm an HSP — highly sensitive. I feel things deeply, notice what others miss, and tend to think in layers. It's shaped how I work and why depth matters to me more than speed.

[3]

Philosophy and psychology have always pulled me in. I ask big questions — about life, meaning, the human condition. I'm drawn to mysteries, to sitting with complexity, to understanding what drives people.

[4]

I film and photograph life as I live it. Not to curate — to capture. There's something about being present enough to see a moment worth holding onto.

[5]

I'm a husband and a father of two. My kids teach me more than most books. Family is where I come back to myself.

[6]

I travel to expand — new cultures, different ways of living, nature in its full scale. Canada got under my skin especially: Toronto, Queen Street, Lake Ontario, the Raptors, and people who are warm without trying to be.

[7]

I love food. The variety of it, the culture in it. Day to day: rice and soups. But nothing beats a proper Wiener Schnitzel.

[8]

I believe in growth — not as a goal, but as a practice. Learning, shifting, expanding through life experiences, books, and honest reflection.

[9]

I'm drawn to beauty — in objects, in nature, in people. Good design isn't decorative to me. It's honest. It says something true about what it is.
